Eye Exams

Eye Exams

Our friendly and caring doctors are here to help you see your best and maintain healthy vision. Annual eye exams can help with early detection of eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. During an eye exam, our optometrists completely evaluate your internal and external ocular health, which is often an indicator of overall systemic health.

Eye exams will also help determine if you need glasses or contact lenses, or if you need a change in your current prescription. If you have not had an eye exam in the past year, it is time to schedule one. If you have any risk factors for eye diseases, such as diabetes or a family history of eye disease, you may need to have eye exams more often.

Our Exam Services

comprehensive eye exam

Comprehensive Ocular Examination

Thoroughly evaluates the eyes and surrounding structures. This examination typically includes a series of tests to assess visual acuity, eye muscle function, eye pressure, and the health of the eye’s internal structures, such as the retina and optic nerve. The doctor may also use specialized equipment, such as a slit lamp or a dilated eye exam, to examine the eyes in more detail. A comprehensive ocular exam is essential for maintaining healthy eyes and detecting potential vision or eye health issues.

optos imaging

Digital Retinal Optos Imaging

A diagnostic technique that uses advanced imaging technology to capture a high-resolution image of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. The Optos system uses a scanning laser ophthalmoscope to create a detailed and wide-field image of the retina without dilating the pupils. This non-invasive technique is helpful in the detection and management of various eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Digital Retinal Optos Imaging provides eye doctors with a comprehensive view of the retina, allowing for earlier detection and more precise monitoring of eye diseases. In addition, it is a safe and quick procedure, with no discomfort for patients.

Diabetic Exams

Crucial for detecting and monitoring diabetic retinopathy, a common complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss if not treated early. The exam involves using dilating drops to widen the eyes, helping the doctor see the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels in more detail. The exam is painless, but patients may experience temporary blurry vision and sensitivity to light. Regular dilated diabetic exams are highly recommended for patients with diabetes.

corneal topography

Corneal Topography

A painless and non-invasive diagnostic test that uses a computerized system to map the curvature and shape of the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye, known as the cornea. This test is helpful in diagnosing and managing eye conditions like astigmatism, keratoconus, and corneal dystrophies. The results of the test can help determine the most appropriate treatment options, such as contact lenses, glasses, or refractive surgery, to improve vision and correct corneal abnormalities.

eye allergy exam phoenix

Eye Allergy Consultation

A medical evaluation that diagnoses and treats eye allergies. The doctor will review the patient’s medical history, examine the eyes, and run tests to identify the allergens causing the allergic reactions. This information will help the doctor develop a personalized treatment plan to manage symptoms and may include eye drops, oral medications, or avoidance strategies. The evaluation is beneficial for those suffering from eye allergies, such as seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, as it can help identify triggers and provide treatment options.

red eye emergency

Red Eye Emergencies

Sudden and severe eye conditions that cause redness, pain, and inflammation. They can be caused by infections, injuries, allergies, or underlying medical conditions, and can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. Common Red Eye Emergencies include corneal abrasions, conjunctivitis, uveitis, and acute glaucoma. It is essential to seek immediate medical attention if you suddenly experience symptoms in one or both eyes. Treatment may involve prescription eye drops, antibiotics, or anti-inflammatory medications.

computer vision syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome Evaluations

Exams that assess and treat vision problems caused by using digital devices for extended periods of time. These exams check visual acuity, eye alignment, and focusing ability. Posture, lighting, and screen position are also examined to identify any issues causing eye strain or discomfort. Symptoms include eye fatigue, headaches, dry eyes, blurred vision, and neck or shoulder pain. The doctor may suggest treatment options like glasses, eye drops, or changes to the workstation setup to ease symptoms.

Dry Eye Evaluations

Eye exams that diagnose and treat Dry Eye Syndrome, which occurs when eyes don’t produce enough tears or tears evaporate too quickly. The eye doctor checks medical history, symptoms, and performs tests to evaluate tear production and ocular surface health. Treatment may include prescription eye drops, punctual plugs, or lifestyle changes. These evaluations are important for patients experiencing eye redness, irritation, burning, or excessive tearing.
